If you’re a guy chances are you’re slightly intimidated by buying lingerie for your wife or girlfriend. You may be embarrassed to go to the store, you may not know what to buy, and you don’t want to end up in the dog house buying the wrong thing. Here are some helpful tips to get you started.
One of the first things you should do is find out the size of woman you are buying lingerie for. She may have looked really good in that leopard print outfit on your honeymoon 10 years ago, but chances are she’s not the same size she was back then. So find a bra and pair of panties she’s worn within the past 6 months and take note of the sizes.
Remember women want to feel beautiful, not be objectified. So you may really want her to wear a French maid or school girl outfit, but unless she’s given you the ok before hand, go with something that matches her tastes. If she’s never worn a thong before don’t take this moment to bring one into her life. Find something that’s similar to the lingerie she wears now.
It’s important to take colors into consideration. If she wears only black lingerie now don’t by her something in bright pink, or lime green. You could try something in dark blue or purple if you wanted to make things more interesting. Another point is to consider coordinating and matching colors. If it’s a multi piece set the colors should be the same and look like they go together. So pass up on the orange bra and zebra print panties in the closeout bin.
Make sure it’s appropriate occasion to give lingerie. If it’s your 10th anniversary a peek-a-boo nightgown may not be appropriate, unless of course it comes with two tickets to Hawaii. The same holds true for birthdays, and Valentine’s Day. Why not make it the “because it’s Tuesday” gift instead.
If you are going to a store, or lingerie boutique don’t be intimidated. The sales people are there to help you, and will make it as quick and painless as possible. If you’re too embarrassed to shop try shopping online or buying a gift certificate instead.
